Moses R. Smith, son of Presley William Smith, lived in Madisonville, Kentucky, at least in the
latter years of his life. It is believed
that he was still living in 1961.

Presley William Smith, son of Aaron Fairfax Smith
Presley William Smith (son of Aaron Fairfax and Judith Smith), born 1823 or 1824; married Mary Ann Morton, born 1836 or 1837, daughter of Thomas Ross Morton and Nancy
Elizabeth Rhodes, who were married December
9, 1833 . Nancy Elizabeth was
the daughter of David Rhodes and
granddaughter of Henry Rhodes (or Rhoads), who was of German birth and was a Revolutionary
Soldier.
Presley William and Mary Ann Smith's children in 1880 were:
Nancy J., b.
1867 or 1868
Thomas A., b.
1870 or 1871
Presley W., b. 1873 or 1874
Elizabeth E., b.
1874 or 1875
Bessie, m. Williams
Elizabeth Smith, daughter of Aaron Fairfax Smith
Elizabeth Smith (daughter of Aaron Fairfax and Judith Smith) was born
December 17, 1820 ;
died March 9,1898 .
She married John U (or Q.) Wood on November 19, 1846 . He was
born January 19, 1820 ;
died October 12,1856 .
Both are buried in the Hazel Creek
Baptist Church
cemetery in Muhlenberg
County .
Lucinda Smith, daughter of Aaron Fairfax Smith
Lucinda Smith (daughter of
Aaron Fairfax and Judith Smith) was likely born in 1819. She died in 1884. Lucinda did not marry. She lived with her parents during their
lifetime and in 1880 her home was with her brother Presley William Smith. Her will,
found in Book 4, page 63, is dated June 10, 1884, and states that on November
17, 1883, in consideration of four notes (three for $100 and one for $114) she
entered into contract with W. H. Smith (wife Isadora) to keep her for her natural life. The above contract, it states, was carried out
to the satisfaction of all. Her death
must have been shortly after June
10,1884 .
Eudoxy Smith, daughter of Aaron Fairfax Smith
Eudoxy (or Eudoxie) (daughter of Aaron Fairfax and Judith Smith) married
Alney M. Robinson on September 10,1837 . Very likely this man's name was
"Robertson" instead of "Robinson."
In 1825-26 and again in 1827-28, Rachel
Robertson Smith, wife of James Simpson Smith, was the guardian of Alney Robertson. The 1850
census of Muhlenberg
County includes Laura
Robertson, age 11, and Aaron Robertson, age 10, in the household of Aaron F. Smith, who would have been their grandfather.
One might assume that Eudoxie and Alney
Robertson were not living in 1850. Laura Robertson, age 22, was
living with her uncles Presley and Moses Smith, and her Aunt Lucinda Smith (all children
of Aaron Fairfax Smith) in 1860. It
appears that they maintained a residence separate from their parents.
William H. Smith, son of Leonard Smith
William H. (Billy) Smith, son of Leonard Smith, was born September 30, 1841 , near Paradise . He served
in Company I (Eye), 11th Kentucky Infantry (Federal), during the
Civil War. (See Rothert, p. 336.) Rothert states that Smith's farm on Green River , below Airdie, was one of the best preserved
old farms in the country. Few men were
better known along Green River than "Billy”
Smith. It was his custom to hold
semi-annual reunions of Civil War veterans. The one in May 1912 was attended by one
Confederate and fourteen Federal soldiers. (See photo on page 283 of Rothert.)
One of "Billy" Smith's neighbors was General Don Carlos Buell, under whom he fought during the early part of the
Civil War and for whom his youngest son, Don Carlos R., was named.
William H. Smith married Isadora Mason (born in Indiana in 1844 or 1845)
on February 12, 1865 ,
at the home of P. Smith. In 1880, their family
consisted of these children (Don Carlos R. evidently did
not arrive until after that year);
Mary E., born 1866; m. P. Humphrey on December
21,1881, and was said to have been one of the most progressive women in the
town of Paradise.
Leonard W., born 1868, One Leonard Smith married Iona Widick on November 24,1892.
Erasmus M., born 1870 or 1871; E. M. Smith married Susan Creager on March 8, 1893.
Annie D., born 1872 or 1873
Fannie, born 1875 or 1876
Laura I., born 1879
Leonard Smith, son of Aaron Fairfax Smith
Leonard Smith, son of Aaron Fairfax Smith, born in
Kentucky in 1813 or 1814; married Elizabeth Yonts on May 24,
1838. The Yonts family came from North Carolina about
1812 and "settled near the home of Eli Smith, who was a kinsman of Elias" G. Smith, according to Rothert.
Leonard Smith died before 1880 and in that year his widow, Elizabeth, was living in the home of William H. Smith, who was probably their only child.
