William Marshall Blackwell[1] was a son of Levi and Martha “Patsey” Blackwell; born in Caswell County, North Carolina, June 8, 1801; married Elizabeth Strader (or Strador) of Caswell County, August 25, 1818. Elizabeth's parents were Christian and Zepphorah (Summers) Strader. Elizabeth was born in 1799, probably in North Carolina. She died in Kentucky in 1867. William Marshall Blackwell was married a second time, to Mary A. Davis, in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky. He died January 29, 1887, and is buried in the Smith Cemetery, in Smith Township, Posey County, Indiana.
By his first wife, he had ten children, as follows:
1. Susanna Mary Ann Blackwell, born October 6, 1821; married Elsberry Smith in Posey County, Indiana, on August 16, 1845; died November 11, 1893, in Posey County.
2. Zeppora Blackwell, born about 1823; married David McPherson in Muhlenberg County on June 25, 1848; children: Rebecca, who married William Marshall Smith; Eliza, who married James W. Smith on December 14, 1876, in Muhlenberg County.
3. Louisa (Lou) Blackwell, born about 1824; married Daniel F. Shelton October 31, 1841, in Muhlenberg County.
4. George Washington (Wash) Blackwell, born about 1828 in North Carolina; may have married twice. His marriage to Delia Whitaker on March 8, 1855, is recorded in Muhlenberg County marriage records. But the 1860 census for Muhlenberg County shows his wife to be "Lotta J” age 25. His children in 1860 were: Robert R., 4; Warick M., 2; Cordelia W., one.
5. Martha A. S. Blackwell, born 1833, married K. F. Ford on September 29, 1853 in Muhlenberg County.
6. William Jefferson (Jeff) Blackwell, born 1835; married Elizabeth E. Posey (daughter of Elec Posey), January 26, 1857; died before June 1874.
7. Elizabeth Jane (Betty) Blackwell, born 1837; did not marry.
9. John B. Blackwell, born May 1, 1840; married Iradina ; died February 13, 1915, and is buried in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Kentucky. This family is listed in the 1880 census of Ohio County, Kentucky. Iradina was then 30. Children listed were:

W. Dallas, born 1872-issue: Neil P., Elizabeth, Lois, Helen;
Charley E., born 1874, married Noffsinger - issue: Harold, Leslie;

Ora, born after 1880-issue: Carrie Ruth, Florence;
Clyde, born after 1880; married Mary Humphrey; died 1951-issue:
Juanita (married George L. Moore), Clyde, Jr., Inez (married Marlin Jackson).
10. Jemima Blackwell (daughter of William Marshall), born 1843, married William Hughes on March 5, 1865.
William Marshall Blackwell and his second wife, Mary, had one child:
E. Marsh Blackwell, whose year of birth was 1871; died on July 31, 1936, in Tecumseh, Pattawatomi County, Oklahoma. E. Marsh was a newspaper man and is said to have left a substantial estate.
