Janet Ruth Smith, daughter of Claude Gerrard Smith, born June 22,
1944. In high school she participated in
student government, band, chorus and cheerleading. She was Junior Prom Queen. Janet attended Utah State University and the
University of Wyoming, receiving a Bachelor's degree in math education from the
latter. She taught in Lovell (Wyoming)
High School for one year, then moved to El Paso, Texas, where she worked as a
computer programmer for the El Paso Natural Gas Company.
On September 1, 1967, Janet married Lt. John Walter Carlton, in El Paso, who
is a career soldier and holds the rank of captain in the Army Air Force. Ft. Bliss,
at El Paso, is his home base, but the family is now stationed at Schofield Base
in Hawaii. Janet's and John's children
are:
Julia Ann Carlton, born April 10, 1968, in Evanston, Wyoming.
