Melvin Claude Smith, son of of Claude Gerrard Smith

Melvin Claude Smith, son of of Claude Gerrard Smith, born July 25, 1941; married Renita Lanette Prather on September 7, 1965, in Salt Lake City.  

He attended the University of Wyoming for one year.  In October 1960, he left the United States on a two and one-half year mission to Uruguay for the Latter Day Saints Church.  While returning from the mission he visited other South American countries and Mexico.

After returning to the United States, in May 1963, he enrolled at the Utah State University to continue his studies in business administration and Spanish grammar.  

He enlisted for military service on January 16, 1964, and went to Ft. Ord, California.  From there he went to Ft. Holabird, Maryland, Military Intelligence School and then was assigned to Ft. Bragg, North Carolina.  In March 1965 he entered Officer Candidate School at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma, where he received second lieutenant bars on August 31, 1965.  He returned to Ft. Holabird for officer training in Military Intelligence School.  Late in 1965 he was sent to Vietnam for one year.  When he returned to the United States he went back to Ft. Holabird and became an instructor in military intelligence.  In August 1968, Melvin resigned from the Army with the rank of captain.  

He enrolled in July 1969 at Weber State College and received a Bachelor's degree in business administration in 1971.  He has taken graduate work at the University of Utah and is nearing the requirements for a Master's degree.  His wife, Renita, has completed her sophomore year at Weber State College.  Melvin is now president of a family corporation, Treasure Foods, Inc.

Melvin's and Renita's children are:

George Alton Smith, born August 12, 1967, Baltimore, Maryland.    
                       
David Bruce Smith, born November 28, 1968, Baltimore, Maryland.

Kaelynn Marie Smith, born December 3, 1971, in Ogden, Utah.


Sherrie Lee Smith, born January 22, 1973, in Ogden, Utah.
